Time series data is the essence of industrial Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) systems as well as in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and that is why the time series database (TSDB) is typically the most important component in the solution architecture.

This sections discusses the essential concepts of time series data and the metadata that is needed to describe the data path from the source of the data through the various phases of processing, storing, aggregation and supporting the application development as well as enabling efficient engineering of the system.
